Slaves
who were traveling on the Underground Railroad sang a coded song called "Follow
the Drinking Gourd". The drinking gourd was the Big
Dipper, which is part of a constellation called Ursa Major or the Great
Bear. The front of the bowl points to Polaris or the North
Star, which the slaves followed to the North = Freedom.
