The Great Genre Passport Project

All students are required to read different genres.

Students in grade 2 are expected to read at least 6 books;

Students in grade 3 are expected to read books with 65 pages or more;

Students in grade 4 are expected to read books with 85 pages or more;

Students in grade 5 are expected to read books with 125 pages or more.

Students in grades 3, 4 & 5 are expected to write one book review on the BookBlog.

When a book in a certain genre has been read, the student gives an oral booktalk presentation to the class.

When they have finished, I give them a sticker for that genre. When they have completed their passport, I staple the top and they drop it into the "genre box". The audience gives them a "crazy wave". At the end of the year, the principal will choose two passports. These students will choose books from the book fair for their very own library!

The students will:

  1. Learn time management;
  2. Be responsible for their own passport;
  3. Be responsible for their own reading;
  4. Be responsible for picking out appropriate reading material (with my assistance when neccesary);
  5. Give an oral presentation to the class;
  6. Learn new vocabulary;
  7. Explore many genres;
  8. Learn titles, authors, illustrators and copyright date locations;
  9. Locate different materials using the online card catalog independently;
  10. Edit and publish their book review online using a Blog.
