Margaret Peterson Haddix

Margaret Peterson Haddix

Margaret Peterson Haddix grew up on a farm near Washington Courthouse, Ohio, USA on April 9, 1964. Her favorite books when she was a kids were The Little Princess by Frances Hodgeson Burnett, and From the Mixed-Up of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler by E.L. Konigsburg. She knew she wanted to be a writer when she was in elementary school and started trying to write when she was in second or third grade. After she became an adult, she started to write seriously.

She attended Miami University and received a B.A. in creative writing and journalism. Mrs. Haddix worked as a newspaper reporter in Indiana and a community college instructor.

Her ideas for her books came from lots or different places.  Her first three books were inspired by newspaper articles she worked on as a reporter. Other books grew out of things that happened to her or other people, things she overheard, or just weird thoughts and speculations that floated through her brain.

She and her husband Doug live in Ohio with their two children, Meredith and Conner.

Mrs. Haddix is the bestselling author of many novels for young readers, including the following titles:
